Fuck Treble

Aight so last Saturday my buddy convinced me to go to see Mt. Eden with him at Theatre Telus and its a good thing I didn’t refuse. First off, opening was sick with Elo!i & Heights followed by Vilify (who’s pretty much at every big dubstep event in Montreal). Mt. Eden turned out to be completely different than I expected, from what I knew of them, they played cool-relaxed dubstep, but they were pumping some sick Chase and Status and some Bare Noize all night, it was crazy. Some good moshing every now in then is good for your system. One thing though is that one of Mt Eden’s members was obsessed with giving the crowd the finger and putting his Jagermeister in the air…

Mt. Eden – Sierra Leone

Chase and Status – Blind Faith (feat. Liam Bailey)                                They played a sick remix I couldn’t find but I still love the original

Miss Jane – It’s a Fine Day (Levitating Elephants Dubstep Remix)             The trance version is sick but when I heard this mix I dropped dead.

Also a lot of tracks I couldn’t find such as a sick remix of Bowie’s “Space Oddity”, a new Starry Eyed Remix (yeah another one) and a remix of Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At” that I’ll try and find in a near future.

Aight, now on to some more tunes I’ve been blasting recently (however my beloved earphones broke so I’m currently eBaying the shit out of a few pairs, to no avail so far).

Chase and Status- Fool Yourself (feat. Plan B & Rage)

Muse – Resistance (Spor Remix)

Now for a bit of trance, heard the Stoneface track on TATW I think and the 4 Strings remix has just been played non-stop by pretty much everyone.

Stoneface & Terminal – Here to Stay

Slusnik Luna – Sun (4 Strings Remix)  (Link Removed)

Aight so closing note, Avicii is bringing his badass self to Bal en Blanc and it seems pretty much all set now, unless they got one more surprise for us.

Bringin’ Back Da Funk

Alright so last Saturday was I went to see Wolfgang Gartner and, like it seems to have become a common occurrence in the past couple of months, I was alone for most of the night. Didn’t really matter because it was awesome. Felt kinda stupid though, it completely slipped my mind that it was a White Party, so like a retard, I’m dressed in yellow and grey… For once, the opening Djs were really good, playing crazy dubstep and electro all night. For some reason, I couldn’t find out who they were and no one seemed to know really, I even went to ask the lighting technician and he had no clue either. Damn shame, also didn't know most of the songs they played but here’s a couple of songs in that same style.

Cracks (Flux Pavilion Remix) - Freestylers

Bring Back Boogie – Alex Mind vs Far Too Loud

And obviously when Wolfgang came on, he brought it to a new level.   You might remember that back in 2009, Fred called that he was going to be big and damn he was right!

Space Junk – Wolfgang Gartner

Music Sounds Better With You – Stardust                                            Track like this always makes a set that much better

Aight so I’ve been listening to a lot of electro recently and Dirtyloud are definitely one of my favourites at the moment.

Breakdown (Dirtyloud Remix) – Cold Blank

Let You Go (Nero Remix) – Chase & Status

And lastly, here are a couple of badass tracks from Tiësto’s Clublife who’s really been on fire recently with his podcast in my opinion.

Across the Light – Swanky Tunes

One Hot Pleasure (Sultan & Ned Sheppard Remix) – Erika Jayne      Dirtyloud also has a nice remix of this.

Think About the Way 2010 (Instrumental) – Virtual Vault feat. Ice MC

And there you go, I believe this goes down as my first trance-less post. Enjoy.

Summertime and the Livin’s Easy

Let me start by apologizing for not writing in a while, truth is i haven’t been that busy, I’ve just been incredibly lazy recently.imagesublime

Alright so like we’ve been mentioning all summer, this has been a great summer for music and right now I’ve got way too much music I want to share. So here goes, the first track is triple mashup that Gareth Emery played during his set at Circus. The original mashup was already incredible and this version was really hard to find so sorry if its a bit short but believe me it’s totally worth it.

The Great Find (Gareth Emery Re-edit) – Rank 1 vs. Jochen Miller vs. John O’Callaghan

Still from his set a Circus, this is a quadruple mashup that made the crowd go completely crazy.

Lethal Stadium Four (Gareth Emery Edit) – TIësto vs. Lange vs. Andy Moor vs. Komytea

Sorry, both of them are from live sets but it doesn’t take anything away from their greatness. One of the Dj that I like the most at the moment is without a doubt Ben Gold, or Be:Gold depending on the track. This guy, in my opinion is completely insane and deserves to be in the Top 100. Here’s a couple of tracks that Above & Beyond have been featuring lately.

Profile – Ben Gold

Sapphire (Trance Mix) – Ben Gold

Since I haven’t posted since Cosmic Gate, here are the two highlights of that night, both by Nic Chagall, the skinny half of the duo.

Here On This Earth (Nic Chagall Remix) – Tiësto

This Moment (feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn) – Nic Chagall

Here’s a little extra that I think you’ll appreciate

Griffin – Artento Divini

Alright so it seems i haven’t posted anything really dirty recently so here’s the Caspa remix of One by Swedish House Mafia that Justin posted a while back. Needs to be listened to with good speakers though.

One (Your Name) (Caspa Vocal Remix) – Swedish House Mafia feat. Pharell

And finally, some drum and bass / dubstep with Chase & Status.

Death (Chase & Status Remix) – White Lies

Heartbeat (Chase & Status Remix) – Nneka

Pieces (feat. Plan-B) – Chase & Status

Enjoy.

Long Overdue

Additional writers was supposed to mean additional and more frequent posts. Yet, its been almost two weeks since anyone has written anything. We should consider a rotation of some sort.

Lately, I've been trying to diversify within the different types of electronic music that I listen to. It feels sort of weird to go from a high energy house track to some relaxing trance, but Gareth Emery is great. Seriously, Exposure is amazing and he has lots of other awesome tracks too (Props to Ellis).

So in my quest for diversity, I stumbled upon a Montreal based DJ by the name of Geoff Buchanan. He was introduced to me by a musically gifted friend of mine who is going to win Canadian Idol next year. Geoff is a 21 year old guy from Quebec who started his music career by performing in a few metal bands. He fell in love with synthesizing sounds and manipulating them to his liking. This is what he claims played the biggest role in propelling him towards dubstep. Don't be surprised if you don't hear too many wobbles in his songs. Geoff is an innovator in the sense that he tries to distance himself from the genre as he welcomes the "experimental" adjective that is often attributed to his tunes. I encourage his experiments, because as you guys will soon hear, his style is very entertaining and refreshing. He recently released a four track EP called Fashion Crasher under Monkey Dub Recordings, a record label which also employs Man of Zion and Dub Junkies.

This first track is from his EP and is my favorite of the four.
Heads You Live by Geoff Buchanan

This one is called Molotov

Now THIS is experimental dubstep
Liquid Cocaine by Geoff Buchanan

Feel free to check out Geoff's myspace, soundcloud, youtube channel and personal website for more.

In addition to awesome new styles of dubstep, I've got more tracks.

This kid from South Africa is only 18 years old and has provided me with the dirtiest stuff I've heard in a long time. Try to guess where the dialogue is from.

Gas Mask - Skare (Updated 2010)

This is a new Dizzee Rascal track. I'm not a big fan of rap, but I love this guy. The dubstepish background beat makes this song very enjoyable.

Heavy - Dizzee Rascal ft. Chase & Status

This tune is from a German duo named Hey Today!. They sound a lot like Boys Noize, a German counterpart. Coincidence? I do not think so.

Toasted - Hey Today! (Original Mix)

Don't believe me? See for yourself.

Jeffer - Boys Noize

One more thing: if you live in the Montreal area and you would like to see Geoff live, send us an e-mail and we will let you know about his upcoming performances.
