Will's Favorite Artists of 2010

Here are (by domain) my favorite of 2010

Favorite "Featuring" Artist

Ok, so I have been insanely busy lately but it seems that as occupied as I may be, there is a group that keeps on showing up everywhere I go. I was on my way home from a new year's party downtown last night when I realized: "Damn, Foreign Beggars are awesome!" They have been remixed and used in so many genres of electro lately that you can rarely go to a good party where they aren't played. They've not only helped Noisia in their meteoric rise to fame but have also contributed to Flux Pavilion, Skrillex and many more. This post is a tribute to them and all they've done to the dubstep, breakbeat and D & B scene this year. Here are my top three.

1- Contact - Noisia (ft. Foreign Beggars)

2- Typhoon - Foreign Beggars (ft.Chasing Shadows)

3- Lines in Wax - Flux Pavilion (ft. Foreign Beggars)

Favorite Remixed Artist

Contrary to the Foreign Beggars, the next group is a lot lighter. The Two Door Cinema club is an alternative rock band from Northen Ireland. Their album "Tourist History" is just awesome. They are so upbeat and energetic that a large amount of artists use their music to get the crowd moving. This is why they are my favorite remixed artists of the year. Top three!

1- Something Good Can Work - Two Door Cinema Club (The Twelves Remix)

2- I Can Talk - Two Door Cinema Club (I know this is no remix but...)

3- A Cholo You Know - Down AKA Kilo vs. Two Door Cinema Club (The White Panda Mash-Up)

Favorite Artist Period!

What can I say? Drum and Bass is just awesome. I can not go a day without it and this year, Pendulum stepped up to the plate. Their album "Immersion" was huge and produced some of the best tracks I have ever heard. "Tarantula" remains as my ringtone to this day which can actually be pretty bothersome because when someone calls me (even if I am in class and I forgot to turn off my phone) I don't want to pick up. Many of their tracks reached high levels in the UK singles chart and they recently let out their new single "Crush". They are currently on tour going from India, to England and then to North America. I am really sad to say that not only am I missing them in Vancouver (I arrive 4 days too late) but I am also missing Gareth Emery on the 25th because my flight leaves that day. The travel gods hate me! Oh well, at least I have "Immersion" to make me feel better. My top 3 tracks

1- The Vulture - Pendulum

Still 1- Witchcraft - Pendulum

Will always be 1- Immunize - Pendulum (ft. Liam H)

Lets hope 2011 will be as awesome!

Damn, it's been a while!

So a few days after my trip, my computer died. This means no posting for quite some time but don't worry, i got a new laptop. WOOT!
I've been checking out some new album releases, something I haven't done in a while and I found three worth talking about.

1- Noisia's new album is something I've been looking forward to for a very long time. Drum and Bass has become my new thing! Once again, Noisia and Foreign Beggars have teamed up to make some of the most insane head banging, seizure causing, car crashing music i know (very similar to the old Prodigy). But yes, there are also some good solo songs.

Shellshock - Noisia Ft. Foreign Beggars

Soul Purge - Noisia Ft. Foreign Beggars

Split The Atom - Noisia

2- Everyone knows about Crookers right? If not, check out these posts:

Crookers

For those of you who DO know how awesome Crookers are, well it turns out their new album doesn't reach my Crookers standards. We can compare their new album to the Montreal Canadians; not a bad team but still one with a lot of difficulties. The Crooker's usual NHL representative team: Washington Capitals. Not comparative. At least the album cover is still pretty cool.

Hip Hop Changed - Crookers Ft. Rye Rye

Remedy - Crookers Ft. Miike Snow

3- Finally, lets talk about Groove Armada. They're a group from the UK that aren't that well known in Canada but that play some pretty sweet music. These two guys will play some smooth experimental/dance/indie that might just blow your mind (if you're more of a calm person). Their new album Black Light is their 9th and I find they’re getting pretty damn good.

Paper Romance - Groove Armada

Just For Tonight - Groove Armada

I realize that I haven't posted anything for a while, and excuse myself sincerely but fuck it, I've been busy.

Do you guys know who Bob Marley is?...Of course you do. Well, my old friend Bob had a couple of kids. His youngest son, Damian, followed the same steps as his dad. One thing he didn't know was that his voice would be used to complement some sickass beats.

It Was Written - Damian Marley (Chasing Shadows Remix)

I also went to igloofest twice this year (the two most awesome nights of the year)! Ever since Noisia, I've been craving me some D & B. Here's a sick version of Sweat Dreams (to be played EXTREMELY loud!).

Sweat Dreams - Eurythmics (Noisia Remix)

Do you remember Contact - Foreign Beggars (ft. Noisia)? Well Noisia and Foreign Beggars have been working together again to make this awesome new song. I rarely laugh when listening to music, but the lyrics you're about to hear made me crack out in the bus on my way home. The old couple and random lesbo sitting next to me got the shit scared out of them. I enjoyed the whole situation very much.

Shake It - Foreign Beggars (ft. Noisia)

To top it all off, some calmer music that'll make you feel better on a rainy day. Enjoy!

Blinded By The Lights - The Streets (Nero Remix)

IGLOOFEST!!!!

Since exams are over, it's time to PARTY! For those of you that live in (or around) Montreal, Igloofest is arriving quickly. For those who don't know: Igloofest is an event that happens every year at the Vieux Port of Montreal. It's three weeks worth of awesome electronic music played in the freezing Quebec weather. Insane right? Not really! It gives us the opportunity to warm ourselves up the sickest way possible: Dancing and Alcohol! Here's a link to the official site for those who want a little more information:

Igloofest

The two days I intend to go are the 16th and 29th of January. Some of the artists playing on those days: Noisia, La Riots, Renaissance Man, Rusko and King Cannibal. Insane or what! For those of you who like Dubstep and Drum & Bass, it's gonna be a good year. Here's a sample:

Contact - Foreign Beggars (ft. Noisia)

Pro Nails - Kid Sister (Rusko Remix)

3 Little Words- Frankmusik (KingCannibal Remix)

Underground stuff? kay. And car boom boom.

So what you usually get on the gazillion blogs around are only popular songs(or DJ) but hey, many songs that aren't that played are really amazing. I hate people that listen to certain music just "cuz it cool mang", because these are the ones that make the style not be so cool anymore (and they show how they can't chose for themselves).

This one was posted on You Can Call Me Pelski (my favorite blog) a couple months ago and I made it blast in my friend's car... guess what? it was awesome. It's a chill beat that gives you the illusion it's relax and then the "alarm tone" starts and the voice too. That part makes you feel that something is coming and then... BOOM. No one really knows this song but it's pretty fun. Hear for yourself.

Sharooz - Get Off (This Is Kokuz ReChop) [Very Fawking Hawt]

So... Car boom boom. Or simply making your house shake I guess... Well my friend does that alot with his biggass sound system. He loves Dubstep and stuff; told me it was great to make your house explode and it really is, tried it myself. Here are a couple of Dubstep songs: basicly you love it or hate it, nothing else. The first song is from Larry Tee , some brooklyn dude. He pumped some crazy beats on his last album (Club Badd), I suggest you take a look to it. The song posted here are remixes for the purpose of not stealing the artist. Hipster girl is a really relax song but very groovy. The bonus song is NOT dubstep, but damn that thing is hawt (giving you an idea of what Larry Tee can do... with MSTRKRFT of course).

Larry Tee - Hipster Girl (Evol Intent Remix)

BONUS: Larry Tee - I Love U(MSTRKRFT Edit) [Very Fawking Hawt]

There was this retarded burst of Day N Night (Crookers remix) that became an overplayed and pretty boring song in my opinion (yeah it played every 5 minutes on radio stations), even if I love crookers. At least Dubstep saved that one... Here it is, a remix from Rusko. That guy is amazing.

Kid Cudi - Day n Night (Rusko's Big Trombone Remix)

I always loved stuff that really hit hard, that makes you say woah. If you like heavy stuff you'll love this one.

Foreign Beggars, DJ Primecuts - Hit That Gash (DJ Primecuts' Itchy Naaan Re-Rub) [Very Fawking Hawt]

Here is a slower song that is just cool, period. It's really good but long.

Loco Dice - Pimp Jackson Is Talkin' Now (Dubbel Dutch bootleg)
