100 Posts Woot-Woot!

Aight so today’s post is a very special one: Not only are we writing while playing Xbox with some Cheetos & rum at 3 am, it’s also the 100th  post on the HAWT (EDIT: we started writing this then, and then got too into owning Justin). So we decided it was a good time to look back on some classic tunes, all of the following are reposts.

Starry Eyed Surprise (Jakwob Remix) – Ellie Goulding                                Still one of my favourites after all this time

Pro Nails (Rusko Remix) – Kid Sister                                                 Pretty much a song that got many of us started on dubstep.

Exposure – Gareth Emery                                                                    This song is so good, it made Justin love trance, even Will admitted it “isn’t bad”. That’s Right!

A Juicy Intro (Ha-Yes! Mashup) – Notorious B.I.G. vs. The XX                  Already with the epic sound of Intro, Biggie’s lyrics just made it the shit.

One – Swedish House Mafia                                                                   I mean, come on…

Pacha On Acid – Afrojack                                                                     Started to hear this song everywhere after it was posted. I think the Hawt deserves all the credit really…

Pon de Floor (Diplo Rap Remix) – Diplo

Love – Borogre                                                                                   A track with lyrics we can all enjoy and chant out loud

Dynamik – Michael Woods

Ferry Corsten Set at Bal en Blanc.                                                Possibly one of the best  sets any of us has heard. Period.

Aight so we’ve had a lot of good times, you know laughing at Justin and all, but it pretty much pales in comparison to Fred “fight” with Ultra Records which basically ended with this. GTFO!

Oh and like no post is complete without a picture, here’s a classic:

A City of Wonder, a Vote for Disaster

During the past few weeks, The Hawt has become a forum for previewing, reviewing and critiquing electronic music events in Montreal. In the spirit of consistency, this post begins with more proof towards the thrilling aspects of the city’s nightlife.

montreal_at_night2

Sunday, October 17th was a special night for both Ellis and myself. Having to choose between Rusko and Laidback Luke is never an easy task. There is a reason why the Superbowl and Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals are not on the same night. We decided to go our separate ways and focus and two different genres. For the purpose of this post, Ellis was kind enough to provide me with his take on the night:

“Put’Em Up Put’Em Up Put’Em Up Put’Em Up

Aight so on the same night Justin went to Laidback Luke, some friends and I went to the Just For Laughs Studio to see Rusko and, needless to say, it was insane! People fighting, hitting, pushing, swearing; everything a good dubstep concert should have. For those who haven’t seen him live, what really makes him special is that every now and then, he grabs the mic and starts either singing, shouting or whatever he feels like doing. So anyways, back to the event, Vilify (think that’s how you write it, my bad if it aint) opened for him and on top of being hot and pretty good, she’s supposedly the one that takes care of almost everything dubstep in Montreal. Rusko came on at around 1ish and by that time, my friends had already ditched me and I was all alone, but that did not make it any less awesome! He played a lot of his older tracks mixed in with a few from his new album and obviously, some crazy reworks that you’re never able to find anywhere, which just pisses you off.

rusko2

Rusko – Hammertime

Doctor P – Sweet Shop (Friction vs Camo & Krooked Drumstep Remix)

The second track was a total crowd killer, literally. When you expect the Sweet Shop drop, but get this d&b style craziness instead, there is no choice but to jump around and hit people. Oh, and just as a complementary track to one I’m sure Justin will post, here’s a Wolfgang Gartner and Justice mashup.

Justice vs. Wolfgang Gartner - Illmerica Is Your Friends (Steve Camp Mashup)

The tone of his guest post communicates the intensity and superb entertainment of the night, two things that have become synonymous with a live Rusko concert. Coincidentally, I would use the same attributes to qualify the show I attended. Although Laidback Luke performed at Electric Zoo, we were only able to watch him from the line for the Above & Beyond signing. Owning a t-shirt signed by two of the members of one of the greatest DJ trios is a privilege, but as I would soon learn, it cannot be compared to watching a true master of house music.

The event was held at club Muzique, a relatively new addition to the Montreal scenery. Even though it was meant to be 21+, I was able to enter with my name on the guest list (more on this later). The crowd erupted when Luke made his entrance and the cheering did not stop until 3 a.m. As I am sure that most of you have noticed, electronic music has undergone a slight metamorphosis lately. The lines between genres are being blurred and it is becoming much more difficult to classify tracks. Laidback is an exception to this rule. Every mix he played was pure house, something that became very evident when considering his song choices. Two of my favorite moments of the night were when he played the Congorock remix of “One” and when he mixed Till’ Tonight with Miami to Ibiza. Another fantastic moment occured near the end of the night, when he payed his respects to his music’s ancestor, disco. He gave Axel F the moans from Pon de Floor and quickly transitioned to MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This”. As far as his own tracks are concerned, Laidback Luke also played his popular remix of Robbie Rivera’s “Rock the Disco”. Here are two tunes from the soiree, as well as his newest bootleg.

laidback muzique

Jay-Z ft. Swizz Beats - On To The Next One (Laidback Luke Bootleg)

Swedish House Mafia - One (Congorock Remix)

Robbie Rivera - Rock The Disco (Laidback Luke Edit)

Lets fast forward to this past Tuesday, October the 26th. The stage was set for another evening at Muzique, this one to celebrate the club’s one-year anniversary. The owners invited all of their resident DJs to open for Avicii, the night’s main act. Just like Laidback Luke, the event was meant to be 21+, so I called Muzique and asked to add Ellis, as well as myself to the guest list. Please explain to me how the following makes any sense: I was allowed to enter for Laidback Luke, but we were denied access for Avicii. As far as I know, the rules for both nights are identical; 21+, but 19+ with guest list. Even Ellis’ skills in the art of persuasion could not convince the bouncer to let us is, although he did not try long enough to get any results. The look he gave us let us know it was time to go. I can only hope the young Swede comes back to Montreal some time in the near future. Here is a remix of his from Tiësto’s “Kaleidoscope Remixed”.

Tiësto ft. CC Sheffield - Escape Me (Avicii Remix)

Enough with the events, here are a few new tracks that I have been dying to share with you for a while.

As Ellis correctly predicted in his guest post, the mashup he posted is an excellent complement to this next song. Ever since this artist was first discussed on The Hawt, he has been in constant rise, touring around the world while collaborating with huge producers and putting his own spin on the popular Electro House subgenre. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him at the Electric Zoo festival, where he put on an absolute beast of a performance. This tune has garnered lots of attention, earning the support of Laidback Luke and Gareth Emery. Here is the newest release from Wolfgang Gartner, a song that will certainly be featured on his upcoming artist album, due sometime early in 2011.

Wolfgang Gartner-Illmerica

Wolfgang Gartner - Illmerica (Extended Mix)

As Fred pointed out in his previous post, we’ve been slacking when it comes to dubstep. Although pickings have been slim, I do have a brand new one that will surely make you crave more deep synths and the overall dirty sound most of you have come to love. This is latest Borgore track. I’ve got to give a shout out to Gotta Dance Dirty; they have an amazing blog, go check it out if you haven’t already.

Borgore - Sex Instructions Dub

This next one has been sitting in Beatport’s Electro House top 10 for quite some time. When I posted about Hey Today!’s “Toasted” back in early June, I honestly believed they were a lower-tier, underground German duo. However, their latest remix of Tiga’s “You Gonna Want Me” has shot them into the spotlight and displayed the innovation they impose onto their music. I really enjoy listening to this track, especially from the 3:40 mark, where they divert from the tune’s core beat. Instead, they put an electro sound onto Tiga’s techno beat. Its different, but it sounds really good.

Tiga - You Gonna Want Me (Hey Today! Remix)

Last Thursday, the new Gareth Emery podcast finally appeared on iTunes, an arrival that had been overdue for a long time. The songs played were great, but two caught my ear as being better than the rest. The first is from MEM, who came along with a very impressive trance track. It is called Forza and as Gareth later explained, the tune had been killing it for him in his recent sets. The second is from fellow Canadian Adam K, a progressive DJ from Toronto. Remember how I wrote that the lines between genres were being blurred? This song is a perfect example. Its slow tempo and relaxing melody give it a few trance aspects, but do not be fooled; this is progressive house.

MEM - Forza

Adam K ft. Naan - Wake Up (Club Mix)

Do not think that I’m strictly posting songs from the podcast. With the exception of the Adam K track, I’ve had these tunes in my library for a while. Gareth and I must have the same taste in music.

To finish off this large post, lets take a look at DJ Mag’s rankings of the top 100 DJs.

To start off, congratulations to Armin van Buuren for his fourth consecutive year as the world’s #1 DJ. I really was not expecting this, I rather thought that Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz or Ferry Corsten would take the crown. To be frank, very little of the top ten made any sense to me. I respect David Guetta as a DJ and I think he produces great music, but there is no way that he should be ranked higher than any of the previously mentioned. Most of you already know about the true producers behind some of his biggest hits like “When Love Takes Over”. He acts as a cheap ad campaign, giving them credit in the fine print at the bottom of the screen. According to Fred and Ellis, who attended his set at last year’s Bal en Blanc, he is awful live and the radio-like music he emits makes him sound like an amateur.

Placing immediately after Guetta were Tiësto, Deadmau5 and Above & Beyond, who respectively grabbed the 3, 4 and 5 positions. Deadmau5’s jump up 2 spots was also a surprise. His album was great, be he somehow seemed to disappear during the rest of the year. His single with Chris Lake, “I Said”, was and still is awful. “Some Chords” and “Animal Rights” do not warrant a number 4 spot. The Canadian is due for a new album release in December of 2010, one he will call 4x4=12. Here is the tracklist.

dead

1. "Some Chords"
2. "Sofi Needs a Ladder" (You Need A Ladder with vocals)
3. "City In Florida"
4. "Bad Selection"
5. "Animal Rights"
6. "I Said (Michael Woods Remix)"
7. "Cthulhu Sleeps"
8. "Right This Second"
9. "Raise Your Weapon"
10. "One Trick Pony"
11. "Everything Before"

One thing I am happy to see is that Axwell wraps up the top 10. In fact, all members of the Swedish House Mafia are in the top 20 and the trio itself places at #23. The DJ Mag vote is supposed to be an attempt to represent each DJ’s success during the course of the year. In this capacity, Swedish House Mafia should, without a doubt, be the #1 DJ. Their incredible summer took them to the Brixton Academy on more than one occasion and they also earned themselves a residency at Motel Masquerade in Ibiza, the party capital of the world. The film documenting their tumultuous 2010 will be coming out in the next month, so keep posted as it will surely be very entertaining. Check out the trailer here.

Unfortunately, DJ Mag’s voting method is highly flawed. Simply telling the magazine which DJs you like is not a valid measure of skill, hard work or innovation. Inside the method itself lies the biases of evaluation without numerical values. It is no longer a judgement on who is the best, but merely a popularity contest, a vote for class president, if you will. This year’s vote saw a large crowd of North Americans and therefore, whoever spent the most time on the radio waves or on their North American tour received an automatic bid. It is a shame to see the poll be reduced to such an infantile compilation of voices from uneducated, stubborn fans who want to see the one artist they know in the rankings. Notable additions were those of Afrojack, Avicii, Arty and Dada Life while unacceptable descents were those of Above & Beyond, Sander van Doorn, Cosmic Gate and Lange. Regardless of the results, go check out the bios from your favourite artists, some of which are quite funny. For example, Sebastian Ingrosso claims that he is best known for “fucking clubs in the pussy”.

I Wanna Go High…

We’d been talking about it for weeks now and finally, last weekend, we went to New York for the Electric Zoo festival that took place on Saturday and Sunday. I know its a bit late, one week that is, but i got lazy. Just to put you guys in context, it was from 11am to 11pm on both days, with four stages and (usually) all of them jam packed and it was non-stop craziness. The weekend started on a great foot when Justin decided to bet with me that we could not get from Montreal to New York on one tank of gas. It took some insanely good driving on my part, some drafting behind trucks for extended periods of time and putting the car on neutral while going downhill but at the end, with the tank empty and Justin begging me to exit and put gas before we ran out, we made it safely to the hotel. But anyways, enough laughing at Justin for the time being and here’s a list of the Djs we saw and a couple of their tracks.

 Day 1

Glenn Morisson

First Dj of the weekend and he was pretty good. Got to give him credit, although the crowd was pretty at the start because it just opened, the guy was having fun nonetheless.

Contact (Deadmau5 Remix) – Glenn Morrison

Gareth Emery

20100904_IMG_1600

It was only our second set of the day but it was without a doubt one of the best of the whole festival.

The Island Part 1 (Dawn) – Pendulum

On a Metropolis Day (Myon & Shane 54 Mashup) – Gareth Emery vs Oceanlab (REPOST)

He’s probably my favourite producer at the moment and it can only get better with his new album upcoming. Don’t forget to check out his single Sanctuary from Justin’s last post.

Markus Schulz

It was my second time seeing him although the first time was cut short by boring friends at Bal en Blanc and i must say there is a reason he is  in the Top Ten of Dj Mag.

20100904_IMG_1848

Rain – Markus Schulz (REPOST)

Perception (feat. Justine Suissa) – Markus Schulz (REPOST)

Mainstage – W&W (REPOST)

Yeah yeah, a lot of reposting but they’re sick tracks, trust me. Once I get the live set I promise to make the most of it.

Fake Blood

I was pussy last time he dropped by Montreal and to be honest it’s a shame I missed him

Stuck on Repeat (Fake Blood Remix) – Little Boots

Rusko

Anyone order a bass Panini?

Lick the Lizard – Reso & Rusko (sorry for guys talking, its the only version of the song that I know of).

Massive. Played a lot of reworks of his classics, so much fun. Actually got to fight until I got to the front and it was worth all the fighting.

Benny Benassi

What to say about Benny? Probably the only disappointing set on the weekend. In his defence, there were technical difficulties during his set but when he came to drop Spaceship (his track of the summer) he got on to the table and pumped up the crowd just to mix out of it. Disrespectful. Table mounting should not be used except for awesome drops.

Spaceship (feat. Kelis & Apl de Ap) – Benny Benassi

Don’t like his sound usually but this track is addictive.

Axwell

Ok so I never really listened to Axwell before and lord was I wrong. Here’s one of my favourite tracks of the moment.

Teenage Crime (Axwell & Henrick B Remode) – Adrian Lux

Alright so basically we have no choice but to repost this but this song song was played 7 times : Dirty South, Markus Schulz, Axwell (twice), Armin and I’ve forgotten all the rest because seriously everyone played it, EVERYONE.

One – Swedish House Mafia (REPOST)

Oh by the way, here’s Justin going crazy:20100904_IMG_1868

Day 2

D. Ramirez

The first Dj really worth mentioning and probably the only one who has a haircut that can rival with Rusko’s, which one is worst I really can’t decide.

System (Deadmau5 Remix) – D. Ramirez & Mark Knight

Cosmic Gate

Yeah we went to see them again, and like usual they were beasts.

Not Enough Time (feat. Emma Hewitt) – Cosmic Gate

Man On the Run (Nic Chagall Remix) – Dash Berlin

Avicii

Pleasantly surprised by his set, unfortunately I didn’t stay the whole time because there was a great vegan restaurant and I was hungry.

New New (Avicii Remix) –Bob Sinclar

And obviously he played Bromance and the crowd went absolutely nuts.

Bromance (Avicii Remix) – Tim Berg (REPOST)

Above and Beyond

They probably had the bet set of the weekend. They just had so much fun and were incredible. At some point Paavo would write messages to the crowd on his Mac, energy was just insane.

above and beyond_ezny

This track is my favourite at the moment, its off of Super8 & Tab’s new album and there’s a couple of remixes but here’s my personal favourite.

Empire (Kyau & Albert Remix) – Super8 & Tab

Sander Van Doorn

Just like Bal en Blanc he was totally awesome. At some points, these two guys were going to leave but i convinced them to stay because they should not miss out and they thanked me after, that’s right.

Hymn 2.0 – Sander van Doorn pres. Purple Haze

Major Lazer / Diplo

So Diplo tried to slip a fast one past everyone. As you probably know, he is part of Major Lazer. Well turns out, the guy we saw at Osheaga and Electric Zoo was only him and we saw him later again as Diplo the next day. Pretty baller.

Wolfgang Gartner

Probably one of the most entertaining Djs there, his set was just sick. Really. Three turntables, one mixboard and a lot of awesomeness.

Conscindo – Wolfgang Gartner & Mark Knight (REPOST)

Armin Van Buuren

What so say, what to say? Nothing much other than it was crazy. The crowd was completely insane and there’s a reason why he’s # 1 in the world. It definitely was not the best set of the weekend, but the ambiance was totally different from all the others (Oh and he knows how to do a succesfull table mount).

image

Mirage – Armin van Buuren

So that was basically our awesome weekend, if i had to get two lessons out of it they would probably to never trust Justin with directions and also never to lock him out of a hotel room when he’s only in his boxers and a towel, turns out he gets really pissed…

Summer is a nice season; it’s a very nice season (see picture above, and then below! hahaha) and that is why our crew is slacking lately on posts! We’re all pretty busy going out and working, leaving only a little bit of time for the blog, but yet I’m posting one day after Ellis! Don’t forget to read his post! haha.

I was listening to Bal en Blanc again lately (getting in the mood for Tiësto this sunday!) and I found an insaneeee Trance song. Markus Schulz played it pretty early during his set and I remember hearing it at like 8AM. No need to say it was fucking legendary. This is my favorite Trance track at the moment.

Jochen Miller – Brace Yourself (Extended Mix)

I have two dubstep tracks to share with you guys. The first one is a remix from Rusko that’s pretty neat. This time he’s mixing his “good ol’ synth” with some 8bit sounds and Kelis singing. Neat groove. Hear for yourself.

Kelis – 4th of July (Fireworks) (Rusko Remix)

The second dubstep track is from Bassnectar. He decided to mix his own song (that was “okay”) to change it to a sick ass dubstep one. He calls it his “mega-bass remix” for a reason. Enjoy.

Bassnectar – Cozza Frenzy (Mega-Bass Remix)

Obviously a post isn’t a post without some dutch. A lot of good shit gets released during the summer like we’ve seen lately. Here is a couple tracks from Congorock, Sidney Samson, Bart B More (which is amazing by the way) and Itch-E & Scratch-E.

Congorock – Babylon

Sidney Samson – The World is Yours

Mc Flipside – In The Zone (Bart B More Vocal Remix)

Itch-E & Scratch-E - R.E.F.R.E.S.H. (ft. Scribe)

I don’t know if you guys remember, but I posted a mix from Dada Life a whileeeee back? (I was the only writer at the time). It was an amazing mix that I still listen to from time to time. Click HERE for this post, but keep reading for their new July Mix! I had a few listens and it’s really neat. The mixing didn’t seem as good as the old mix (that was totally nuts by the way), but the tracks are still freaking tight. Check their post on their website and check their website in general!

Hawt Summer Incoming

A lot of new songs are coming out and I think I need to share the good ones with you guys. The “Almost Summer” top5 is out of date and it’s time for new tracks.

First of all, Kabz and SOLO released some new stuff a couple days/weeks ago and they are worth mentioning. Kabz released a new mix (more filthy dubstep!) and SOLO released a track. For more info on KABZ click HERE and for mroe info on SOLO click HERE.

HEEEAAAVVVYYY DUB - Glitchstep by DJ KaBz (Click the link for the tracklist) Ghost Train (feat. DJ SOLO) - Datsik by DJ SOLO

Solo is working on a mix right now and he is also working on a collaboration with your favorite writer, me. It should be out in a couple weeks! We’re remixing an emo song. There should be two versions, one wobbly and more dubstepish, and another one that is less wobbly and more “regular”. I’ll post both of them as soon as we’re done.

Also, make sure you check both’s soundcloud, there’s a lot of fun stuff on there, like a remix of Borgore’s “Love”. SOLO’s page - KABZ’ page

image

Alright, time for the top5.

I think it would be great to start with some club music (even though I’m not a big fan of traditional clubs). Most of you probably know this song since it’s been out for a while now, but it’s still very hot club-wise, and if you understand french, it’s pretty funny.

#4- Helmutz Fritz – Ça m’énerve (Club Mix)

image

Then let’s follow up with two fucking massive bangers (like huge, like I mean like you know, like HUGE like you know my what, like yeah I’m that type of guy, deal with it). ESTOY RICO (no it doesn’t mean I’m rich, it means I’m delicious). Anyways… David Guetta and Sidney Samson up in this bitch. Put your sexiest panties and start dancing (girls only, please).

#2- Madonna – Revolver (David Guetta Extended Mix)

#1- David Guetta & Chris Willis Feat. Fergie & LMFAO - Gettin' Over You (Sidney Samson Remix)

Obviously, a top5 wouldn’t be a real top5 without dubstep. Two pretty refreshing tracks, but before I say anything, I don’t like Lady Gaga, but Rusko is amazing.

#5- Lady Gaga – Alejandro (Rusko's Papuseria Remix)

Here is the first real remix that I love of a Rusko track. Sub Focus delivers.

#3- Rusko – Hold On (Sub Focus Remix)

BONUS: I came across this remix the other day and it’s pretty neat! Woot woot.

Ludacris - How Low (J.Lindley Dubstep Remix)

Size matters.

Yes, size matters. Bigger mixes and bigger posts are better.

Other writers have been writing a lot lately and since I didn’t really have that much time to post, I didn’t really bother finding time. The semester is almost over and that means that parties start, but parties without music sucks. There’s this new tendency around here, they call it “dubstep parties”, which is pretty much rave parties without rave music. Hmmm. Great idea, but I’m not sure what hard drugs do on people that listen to dubstep… haha. Someone should do some research on this. Last dubstep party I went to was decent, but I remember one thing: the DJ did not know what the two words “mixing properly” meant. I suggest he donates all his equipment to me(he had nice CDJs and other piece of gear). I also suggest that he starts playing already recorded mixes instead of raping people’s ears. (He wasn’t thaaaat bad, but I still think he should learn to not suck at life)

Wow it’s so strange how the previous paragraph fits with the music I want to talk about! O.M.G. ! (if you’re a Rusko fan and you don’t get this, go die in a fire pleaseeee; thanks.)

Rusko released his new album about last week and I’ve been listening to it quite a bit. Here is what I think:

Sup son;

that is all.

image

Nawww, I keed’. Seriously though it’s a great album that isn’t really near Rusko’s typical dubstep style. It’s less dirty and more “pop? (if you want to call it like that) It’s a lot less aggressive but still pretty awesome and Rusko was able to keep that dubstep drop in every song, even the more chill ones. See for yourself!

Rusko – Scareware

Rusko – Oy (ft. Crookers)

Rusko – You’re On My Mind Baby

Rusko - Rubadub Shakedown (ft. Rod Azlan) (this is like Major Lazer that got “dubsteped”)

Rusko – Woo Boost (Probably the most Ruskie song of the album, this is a repost)

On to some more filthy and dirty and everything you want to hear when listening to dubstep. I came across a really sick mix from Kabz, some Chicago DJ (again). Since I’m really really REALLY bad at summarizing stuff here is the full info on Kabz. He knows DJ Solo by the way. Check THIS post for stuff on DJ Solo.

“Hailing from Chicago, KABZ is one of the fastest rising DJ’s in the midwest scene… Having started DJ’ing in 1993, he has progressed through countless genres of music before discovering dubstep in late 2007. KABZ has played every major Dubstep venue/showcase in Chicago and always leaves the crowd wanting more of his wikkid, hard hitting mixing style. Now a regular DJ on The Dented Sessions on http://www.dubstep.fm, and has been a featured DJ on The Part Time Suckers Show on http://www.WNUR.org, Sub808 on KAKU (Maui), Joystixx Radio on http://www.WLUW.org, Dubstation on http://www.Rhubarbradio.com (Birmingham UK), and a featured mix on http://www.afterdarkradio.info (Birmingham UK) as well.

Kabz is also an integral cog in the Fresh Kid crew in Chicago, which promotes dubstep nights at Smartbar, Cafe Lura, Kinetic Playground to name a few, as well as assorted other events in the midwest dubstep scene. Watch out for this Badman, he might be coming through your town soon!!”

image

I obviously wrote all this (not). His mixes are sick and extremely filthy. I think the DJ from the dubstep party should play this instead of destroying my ears. Allah dammnit. My favorite mix is his Brod out mix 2 that you can find on his soundcloud page or right here. (check his soundcloud for more stuff or his facebook for anything else, for example more links to info) He’s going to release a new mix soon on foreignbanguage.com, I’ll attempt to keep you updated on that. You can download the mix if you want, click on the arrow on the right. Enjoy the mind blowing brostep. Let’s create a new –step word while we’re at it: Kabztep.

Ok, so most of you who read this blog know that both of us writers are white as can be. Well let me tell you a little story about us pale people:

For the past 14 hours, I've had a lot of boring things to do. 6 hours straight of school and then 8 hours of work. That really sucked (even though I'm pretty sure the few of you actually reading this don't give a f@c!<). Well after work, me and a coworker decided to go to a depanneur, buy a decent amount of cheap beer and chug it down before the damn bus arrived. Well, it turns out that after having drank a little, us white people are really into loud rap. (Maybe it's just for me, but I'm pretty sure this is quite widespread). Noticing this particular phenomenon, I decided to pass on a few of the songs I was playing insanely loud through my tiny iPod earphones on the bus (and yes, I pissed off a couple of old people). Hope you enjoy these sober as much as I'm enjoying them now.

Starry Eyed (Rap Remix) - Ellie Goulding

That Tree - Snoop Dogg (ft. KiD CuDi) (Star Guitar Remix)

A Juicy Intro - The XX vs Notorious B.I.G. (Ha! Yes Mash-Up)

Twerkshop - I Can Go Thug (Rusko Vs. Ludacris)

Time to go pass out!

GAH. Almost summer.

Alright soooooo. I have a few things for you guys. First I’d like to say that this summer will be pretty hot. For example, Tiesto is coming on July 18th. We don’t have any information yet like where it is and such but check this facebook event here and invite your friends!

DJ solo sent me his new track that is pretty sick. Here is what he wrote in his email:

“Your blog is real dope...one of my homies recently introduced me to it. Bigup!! My name's DJ SOLO, I'm part of the Chicago dubstep crew Fresh Kid, as well as the LA based hip-hop crew Soul Assassins (Cypress Hill, House of Pain).

This is an original song I wrote over Doctor P's "Rasputin's Gold" called Chicago Mobster Dance. This is not an official collaboration between me and Doctor P, however I'm a huge fan of his music and this was done in tribute, not only to a dope producer, but someone who inspired me to take hip-hop in a new direction. I am currently working on a mixtape that will feature many of my original bootlegs and remixes, as well as more DJ SOLO on the microphone! Protect your neck!!!”

See? Our blog is fucking dope. Haha. Here is the soundcloud embed track (it’s not available for download yet!). Listen to it, it’s worth it.

Chicago Mobster Dance (feat. DJ SOLO) - Doctor P by DJ SOLO

I really love the lyrics and the track (how it’s edited). It sounds sick and I love the idea of rap over dubstep tracks. CHICAGO MOBSTER. Cheers. I’ll keep you guys updated with his new tracks and such (if he sends them to me!! haha). Check his website for more cookies! www.djsoloisawesome.com

This month’s top5 is below! (more like “to start off the summer top5”)

I came across a new song from Rusko the other day while listening to some dubstep mix and I got to admit it’s pretty sick. It sounds like… you know… WOBBLE WOBBLE PEW PEW PEW BOOM BOOM. Yeah that’s right. See for yourself, it’s a great track to start off the summer.

Rusko – Do You Wanna Have a Party

And a remix from Doctor P could help too.

12th Planet & Juakali - Reasons (Doctor P Remix)

Of course I have more than just dubstep for you guys this week! I have other tracks to make you party this summer. These two guys are some big bangers and they’re really fun.

Will Bailey - Hit The Club (Sidney Samson Remix)

Larry Tee Feat. Roxy Cottontail - Let's Make Nasty (Afrojack Remix)

I’m trying something new, posting trance music, let’s see how long it lasts on mediafire. This is one of my favorite trance track at the moment.

Skytech - Comet

March Break Special

Hullo people. It’s finally march break… that means we have a week to sleep, eat fast food and party. Or if your name starts with W, you may go to Vancouver. OH BY THE WAY, Will is gone to Vancouver to see the Olympic games so when he comes back, yell at him and tell him he’s a lucky son of a bitch. GO CANADA GO…

Many events have been confirmed last week/lately and it seems like there will be many fun stuff happening this spring. (To see what was already confirmed, check THIS post) First thing happening is the ILOVENEON & HIGH FOOD Festival from March 25th to March 27th. The line-up is pretty neat on the first and third day (the second day is not as interesting for the price). Here are the line-ups for the 3 days:

1st day: Benga, Flying Lotus, Lazer Sword + MORE.

2nd day: Duchess Says, Joakim, Le Matos, Why Alex Why + MORE

3rd day: PROXY, FAKEBLOOD, BOY 8-BIT, Jordan Dare, Thomas Von Party + MORE (this is a fucking MASSIVE LINE-UP)

Like you can see, the important names are in red. The first day is going to be a lot of bass (Benga’s dubstep is really sick), but beside Benga, I don’t know the others very well. The second day is a little expensive for the DJs in my opinion (same price as the other days) and isn’t as interesting, I’ll probably sleep to get ready for… THE THIRD AND LAST DAY IS GOING TO BE FUCKING INSANE, THIS LINE-UP IS FAWKING MASSIVVEEEE. Proxy, Fake Blood and Boy 8-Bit are all amazing, really. Jordan dare is also really fun and listening to Tiga’s younger brother Thomas won’t be too bad either! 1 day is 25$ and after that if you take the 2day or 3day pass, it’s 20$/night. I’m pretty sure I’ll go to the third day, it’ll be INSANE.

I’m not done.

On April 10th, there will be JFK (from MSTRKRFT), Jordan Dare (again..) and St Mandrew. The price isn’t confirmed yet, but It’ll be around 20$ I think, I’ll keep you guys posted. This ought to be a fun night, JFK is awesome. I miss MSTRKRFT; last year’s show was super cool.

Guess what? I’M STILL NOT DONE. Holy shit this spring will be fun!

On May 8th, there will be the Ed Banger Party (without Justice…). The present line-up is Busy P and SO ME, but more DJs will be added soon so I’ll keep you up to date with that also. If you like what Justice plays, you can’t miss this event (they all play the same tracks… or almost), I’ll probably go also (unless I have finals to study that week…). Like the 2 other events, this will be happening at SAT, but this one could be costing a little more since Ed Banger Crew is very… J… I mean… greedy.   (:

Other shows are happening, but I don’t personally think they’re worth mentioning. I’m not saying they’ll be boring, I’m just saying that they’re not as awesome as m… I mean, the other shows. If I had more money I would go to most of them even though I didn’t mention them here. Check iloveneon.ca for info on the other shows.

Of course a post without music is really bad and anyways, I downloaded about 300 amazing songs in 10 days so I have a lot for you. Don’t forget this is my March Break Special.

Like some of you know, Rusko joined Diplo’s (WOOOO.) label, MADDECENT and just released (officially…) Woo Boost yesterday, so now I can post it without having MADDECENT on my ass. Rusko played it at Igloofest if you wanted to know. I won’t talk about the other tracks too much since I’m posting 11… Read the comments in purple if you want a brief description. I would download all of them if I were you though.

Rusko – Woo Boost (Wobble Wobble)

Afrojack – Pacha On Acid (Thanks to Gottadancedirty for this one)

Afrojack – Bangduk (I don’t like posting set rips, but this one is worth it)

Afrojack, Bobby Burns – Ghettoblaster (Yes, Afrojack again. He’s on fire lately, releasing A LOT of awesome tracks)

Tocadisco feat. Nadia Ali – Better Run (Afrojack Remix) (This track is really, really sick. Afrojacked, again.)

Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say (Afrojack Mix) (Another rip from a set, this one is really awesome and is probably one of the best remixes of Whatcha Say)

Switch – Grace (Laidback Luke Edit) (This song is sick. Seriously.)

L-Vis 1990 - United Groove (MJ Cole Remix) (Thanks again to Gottadancedirty for this one. This song is DIRTY, VERY FUCKING DIRTY)

Robbie Rivera, Dero - 1980 - Maurizio Gubellini Insane Mix (BLEEP BLEEEEP. This track sounds more professional, but still dirty.)

Booty Luv - Say It (Nero Remix) (Very good dubstep track, but not dirty at all, even your mom could love it! cough cough “it”)

Excision ft. Datsik - Retreat (Original Mix) (WHAT THE FUCK. If you don’t know what these guys make… this is some massive bass/darkstep. It’s sick.)

Have a nice March Break and enjoy these tracks, they’re all awesome.

If you’re from Montreal and want me to buy your tickets, here is my policy: No refund and no tickets before I get the cash. I don’t buy more than ONE batch of tickets so once I bought mine, if you forgot to ask, you need to buy it yourself. Also, if it’s 34.01$, I ask for 35$. I’m J… I mean… greedy.

Late information: If you like “chill” dubstep like the song Say it (posted above) or Starry Eyed (Jakwob remix) (posted somewhere on the blog, be the first one to use the search feature!), Luvstep is for you. It’s an hour mix with all very good dubstep songs and it was posted for Valentine’s Day (I know this is a late info). For more info on DJs and the tracklisting + download link go to luvstep.com. This would deserve a full post talking about how awesome the mix is, but heh, I already have enough stuff to post right now.

IGLOO IGLOO IGLOO AND MORE IGLOO

Hey people. We went to Igloofest last week and that shit was fucking nuts. They finally changed it to 18+ so people were actually very drunk and gone for the most part (better vibeee, lawl). The DJs were amazing, the crowd was amazing and the beer wasn’t too bad either.

Here was the setlist:

Living Stone (Dubstep)

Noisia (Drum and Bass)

LA Riots (Hard House kind of)

Renaissance Man (Hard “bongo” House kind of)

Long story short, Noisia was really good and his drum and bass really rocked the place, but LA Riots were the night’s All Stars. The crowd went MAD with them mixing stuff. They played most tracks that people wanted to hear which is nice. Renaissance man WOULD’VE BEEN AWESOME IF SOME IDIOT DIDNT STEAL MY HAT RIGHT BEFORE THEY STARTED. Yes some fucking idiot actually took my purple Igloofest hat right off my head and I couldn’t find him because it was so packed. Sigh… So I got pissed and didn’t really enjoy Renaissance Man. I’m pretty sure they rocked the place though, I love their tracks. Awesome night, people that didn’t go really missed something.

To summarize what’s coming up next Friday night…

RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO RUSKO

Yes, Rusko is coming to Igloofest, so YOU SHOULD GO SEE HIM. WHY? Because 12$ for Rusko is almost as good as MSTRKRFT for 5$ 2 years ago. Rusko is amazing, check THIS post for a track and get another one in the links posted beeeee-low. He’s pretty much one of the biggest influences in Dubstep. He’s pretty big in the UK and well known around the blog “scene” (I hate that word, sounds like emo). Here is some dubstep for you to get ready for next Friday (29th). Check the Facebook event HERE. Enjoy the good stuff.

Ginuwine - Pony (Boson Dubstep Remix)

The Prodigy - Take Me To The Hospital (Rusko Remix)

X & Hell - Jump The Gun (Jakwob Remix) (removed)

(These 3 tracks are very, very good if you like dubstep, they all deserve a very fawking hawt tag)

Igloofest Roundup!

We went to Igloofest a second time on the 29th because we could not miss RUSKO and King Cannibal. (Extra info: with the wind, it was –35 Celcius outside, that’s like –40F)
Even though it was fawking freezing, it was TOTALLY worth it. We got drunk in a McDonalds and sneaked in a couple things for the show. (Awesome start) And then… Rusko started his set. The crowd went MAD and people started jumping around like they didn’t care every time he would change song/there would be a drop. Rusko did amazing; he played a lot of exclusive tracks that aren’t out yet (I got my hands on one! :D) and they were amazing. I think he’s going to release them on MadDecent if you wanted to know… To listen to samples, go on his myspace HERE (http://www.myspace.com/ruskonfire).

King Cannibal did really good too, playing some of the darkest songs out there with extreme wobble wobbles. The crowd was already wild because of Rusko, and he helped keeping that wildness alive. I didn’t get to listen to all of his set because we left a little bit before the end (insanely crowded metros and buses aren’t my cup of tea), but from what I heard, he was good (not as good as Rusko but hey, he was playing AFTER Rusko so the crowd had big expectations).
It’s actually hard to describe how that night was, since it was so fawking insane, so I’ll let you a couple tracks you can blast in your earphones or your car (hoping you put it loud enough to feel how it was at Igloofest… oh wait you can’t!).
Lucky lucky you… Here are 7 amazing tracks!
Doctor P – Sweet Shop (REMOVED)
Excision, Datsik – Swagga
JAYOU - Crack Hands (Genetic Crew Remix) (REMOVED)
Rusko - Cockney Thug (Original Mix)
Rusko - Come Ere And Say That ---> (Hide and Seek remix)
Rusko - Da Cali Anthem (NONEWYORK Funky Refix)
Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions (Joker Remix) (removed by request)
Overall, Igloofest was a success this year! Good DJs, awesome crowds and “good” temperatures…… yeahhh okay. Can’t wait for Piknic Électronik in a couple months! (equivalent of Igloofest… summer version!)

IGLOOFEST!!!!

Since exams are over, it's time to PARTY! For those of you that live in (or around) Montreal, Igloofest is arriving quickly. For those who don't know: Igloofest is an event that happens every year at the Vieux Port of Montreal. It's three weeks worth of awesome electronic music played in the freezing Quebec weather. Insane right? Not really! It gives us the opportunity to warm ourselves up the sickest way possible: Dancing and Alcohol! Here's a link to the official site for those who want a little more information:

Igloofest

The two days I intend to go are the 16th and 29th of January. Some of the artists playing on those days: Noisia, La Riots, Renaissance Man, Rusko and King Cannibal. Insane or what! For those of you who like Dubstep and Drum & Bass, it's gonna be a good year. Here's a sample:

Contact - Foreign Beggars (ft. Noisia)

Pro Nails - Kid Sister (Rusko Remix)

3 Little Words- Frankmusik (KingCannibal Remix)

Amanda Blank, Will you marry me?!

Amanda Blank's debut album just came out TODAY (Well, her first "real" album I guess). I didn't listen to it all yet but seems amazing. While I thought we already heard most of it since blogs posted a shitload of tracks from her, I was totally wrong. Here is the Tracklist for anyone interested (with links to previously posted tracks and two bonuses). Read the rest of the post for more information. Buy it on iTunes Here.

1. Make It Take It 2:25

2. Something Bigger, Something Better 3:05

3. Make - Up 2:16

4. Gimme What You Got (feat. Spank Rock) 2:46

5. Lemme Get Some (feat. Chuck Inglish) 3:01

6. Shame On Me 3:56

7. A Love Song 3:33

8. DJ 2:53

9. Might Like You Better 2:55

10. Big Heavy 3:59

11. Leaving You Behind (feat. Lykke Li) 2:45

Like I said, I didn't listen to it all yet (almost though!), but from what it seems, it's WAY above expectations. Seems like it's some speeded up electro rap bitchy music. It's awesome. I can't describe how fawking insane it is. The bassline in most of the songs is just amazing. Amanda Blank is on fawking fire. Buy it, Buy it, Buy it. It's only 8$ on iTunes..! Uffie is fawking dead. BYE UFFIE, AMANDAXOXO OWNED YOU. Hah. Sorry.

To add a little more fun to this post here are some remixes from her songs in this album. The first remix is made by Diplo (which is simply an amazing DJ, I would recommend you listening to a Live Set from him) and the second is by Rusko, another awesome DJ if you like dubstep. This second one is a little more fawked up but has some nice pattern and is probably the only remix of Might Like You Better that doesnt sound exactly like the original song.

Santigold (ft. Amanda Blank) - I'm a Lady (Diplo Remix)

Amanda Blank - Might Like You Better (Rusko Remix)

Actually, the Diplo remix is the one on the CD... but it's Diplo's work. The name is different on the CD though... it's: A Love Song. It's a little different but not by alot, it got edited to sound better on the radio (that's my guess). I'm trying to not post everything from her album, it's hard though.

IMPORTANT: Oh by the way, my Lupe Fiasco post got deleted and I can't recover it yet... I'm trying hard so I hope you're patient... it was a monster post too...

Underground stuff? kay. And car boom boom.

So what you usually get on the gazillion blogs around are only popular songs(or DJ) but hey, many songs that aren't that played are really amazing. I hate people that listen to certain music just "cuz it cool mang", because these are the ones that make the style not be so cool anymore (and they show how they can't chose for themselves).

This one was posted on You Can Call Me Pelski (my favorite blog) a couple months ago and I made it blast in my friend's car... guess what? it was awesome. It's a chill beat that gives you the illusion it's relax and then the "alarm tone" starts and the voice too. That part makes you feel that something is coming and then... BOOM. No one really knows this song but it's pretty fun. Hear for yourself.

Sharooz - Get Off (This Is Kokuz ReChop) [Very Fawking Hawt]

So... Car boom boom. Or simply making your house shake I guess... Well my friend does that alot with his biggass sound system. He loves Dubstep and stuff; told me it was great to make your house explode and it really is, tried it myself. Here are a couple of Dubstep songs: basicly you love it or hate it, nothing else. The first song is from Larry Tee , some brooklyn dude. He pumped some crazy beats on his last album (Club Badd), I suggest you take a look to it. The song posted here are remixes for the purpose of not stealing the artist. Hipster girl is a really relax song but very groovy. The bonus song is NOT dubstep, but damn that thing is hawt (giving you an idea of what Larry Tee can do... with MSTRKRFT of course).

Larry Tee - Hipster Girl (Evol Intent Remix)

BONUS: Larry Tee - I Love U(MSTRKRFT Edit) [Very Fawking Hawt]

There was this retarded burst of Day N Night (Crookers remix) that became an overplayed and pretty boring song in my opinion (yeah it played every 5 minutes on radio stations), even if I love crookers. At least Dubstep saved that one... Here it is, a remix from Rusko. That guy is amazing.

Kid Cudi - Day n Night (Rusko's Big Trombone Remix)

I always loved stuff that really hit hard, that makes you say woah. If you like heavy stuff you'll love this one.

Foreign Beggars, DJ Primecuts - Hit That Gash (DJ Primecuts' Itchy Naaan Re-Rub) [Very Fawking Hawt]

Here is a slower song that is just cool, period. It's really good but long.

Loco Dice - Pimp Jackson Is Talkin' Now (Dubbel Dutch bootleg)
