Summertime is Eventful

Hey guys, it's been a while, but I've got lots of wisdom to impart. This past weekend was a big one for the performing arts in the city of Montreal. First off, the Osheaga Music Festival returned for its 2010 edition, thus welcoming various artists to Jean-Drapeau Park. The 2 day ordeal lived up to its hype, attracting over 50 000 indie music lovers to see headlining bands such as Arcade Fire, Weezer, Metric and Snoop Dogg. Major Lazer played on the second day, playing one of their awesome mixes consisting of Pon de Floor and The Bloody Beetroots' Warp. Deadmau5 was scheduled to play a set, but was unable to attend. The mau5's July 30th D.C. show was cut short when the Canadian DJ collapsed due to exhaustion. He was violently vomiting and was escorted offstage by medics. His poor health forced him to cancel his next 9 tour dates, including Osheaga.

The second event worth mentioning is a free downtown show called Divers/Cite. Attendees were encouraged to donate 2$, a measly fee used to keep the yearly event going. Emilie-Gamelin Park played host to many trance fans who had come to see DJ Insomnia, DJ Wizz, Sied van Riel and headliners Cosmic Gate. Sied van Riel sounded great, but Cosmic Gate stole the show. Their live set showed exactly why they belong in DJ Mag's top 100. In fact, they were so entertaining that some fans followed to Laval to watch their after hours performance at RedLite. The whole night was somewhat instructive as it displayed the acoustical differences between indoor and outdoor shows. Nevertheless, they were great in both settings. Here is a track from their July chart.

Cosmic Gate - Barra (Extended Mix)

So the annual DJ Mag rankings are going to be coming out pretty soon. Voting has begun and various DJs are preparing themselves. To my knowledge, the list will be released mid-September, which is why Armin van Buuren coordinated the release of his new album with the results. Mirage is set for an early September arrival. Full Focus, Armin's latest leaked tune, will surely be featured on the album. Here's a pretty decent remix.

Armin van Buuren - Full Focus (Ummet Ozcan Remix)

You will definitely hear these next 2 if you decide to go to a nightclub anytime soon. They have both been moving up and down beatport's top 10 most downloaded list for some time. I have no idea who Mark Knight is, but Wolfgang Gartner is always great and when it comes to House, Steve Angello is too.

Mark Knight & Wolfgang Gartner - Conscindo (Original Club Mix)
Steve Angello - KNAS (Original Mix)

It seems that every time we apologize for long post pauses, we end up slacking and even more time passes between the next 2. So instead of apologizing, I'm just going to make up for it by giving you guys some extra tracks. I don't usually like Techno or Tech House, but this next track is very entertaining. Viscosity is very popular in the Techno world, and so is Josh Gabriel. This is my favorite remix of his song.

Josh Gabriel - Viscosity (David Call Remix)

I was asked if I knew about this next song a short while ago. I did and I always thought it was a great song, which made me wonder why it has not been featured on the blog. Nero, a Drum and Bass duo from UK, has grown significantly over the past few months, owing much of its success to the following.

Nero (UK) - Innocence (Original Mix)

Was I the only one under the impression that Deadmau5 was the only musician who released tracks on mau5trap? Apparently, another artist named Moguai does as well. Unlike Deadmau5 who plays around with different styles, Moguai focuses on progressive house. His music makes me think of the softer Deadmau5 stuff, but slightly better suited for a club. European clubs though; not enough North Americans know what good dance music is.

Moguai - Oyster (Michael Woods Remix)
Big World ft. Markus Binapfl - Quadrillion (Moguai Remix)

And of course, no post of mine would be complete without dubstep. Here's another Doctor P remix, along with a new release from Datsik, the filth master.

Datsik - Hydraulic
Caspa - Marmite (Doctor P Remix)

He looks dirty in person too.

Summer is a nice season; it’s a very nice season (see picture above, and then below! hahaha) and that is why our crew is slacking lately on posts! We’re all pretty busy going out and working, leaving only a little bit of time for the blog, but yet I’m posting one day after Ellis! Don’t forget to read his post! haha.

I was listening to Bal en Blanc again lately (getting in the mood for Tiësto this sunday!) and I found an insaneeee Trance song. Markus Schulz played it pretty early during his set and I remember hearing it at like 8AM. No need to say it was fucking legendary. This is my favorite Trance track at the moment.

Jochen Miller – Brace Yourself (Extended Mix)

I have two dubstep tracks to share with you guys. The first one is a remix from Rusko that’s pretty neat. This time he’s mixing his “good ol’ synth” with some 8bit sounds and Kelis singing. Neat groove. Hear for yourself.

Kelis – 4th of July (Fireworks) (Rusko Remix)

The second dubstep track is from Bassnectar. He decided to mix his own song (that was “okay”) to change it to a sick ass dubstep one. He calls it his “mega-bass remix” for a reason. Enjoy.

Bassnectar – Cozza Frenzy (Mega-Bass Remix)

Obviously a post isn’t a post without some dutch. A lot of good shit gets released during the summer like we’ve seen lately. Here is a couple tracks from Congorock, Sidney Samson, Bart B More (which is amazing by the way) and Itch-E & Scratch-E.

Congorock – Babylon

Sidney Samson – The World is Yours

Mc Flipside – In The Zone (Bart B More Vocal Remix)

Itch-E & Scratch-E - R.E.F.R.E.S.H. (ft. Scribe)

I don’t know if you guys remember, but I posted a mix from Dada Life a whileeeee back? (I was the only writer at the time). It was an amazing mix that I still listen to from time to time. Click HERE for this post, but keep reading for their new July Mix! I had a few listens and it’s really neat. The mixing didn’t seem as good as the old mix (that was totally nuts by the way), but the tracks are still freaking tight. Check their post on their website and check their website in general!

Keep the good shit coming! And see you all at Tiësto!

A full two weeks without a post makes for sad times but hopefully you all have been having some fun without us. I’m still grieving about how M. Night Shyamalan completely ruined The Last Airbender but at least I’ve been able to rejoice in the new Eminem album which is seriously sick and imageworth listening too. Also, I’ve been watching a lot of old school Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and I’m just wondering why I ever stopped watching it. So many life lessons to be learned but so many sexual references in each 30 min episode that it makes you wonder why its a show for kids. So to start it off, here’s the most badass theme song of all time, remixed.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Mustard Pimp Remix) – Will Smith

Aight aight but now to the real stuff. I’ve been listening to hours of podcasts recently basically because I’m bored and because they’re full of crazy music. Like the title says its mostly trance or variations mostly because I’ve been listening to Trance Around the World, A State of Trance and Club Life.

To kick it off here’s some tech-trance by Dutch Dj Marcel Woods.

Inside of Me (Dub Trance Version) – Marcel Woods

imageNow for some of the chillest shit I own. First of all  Avicii’s remix of Bromance (no intro for all you build-up haters) which I’m truly dying for Tiësto to play on Sunday. Secondly, what probably is one of my favourite tunes of the summer so far, a classic remix by Above & Beyond. And finally, Estiva with one of the hottest tracks of the moment and I’m sure you’re gonna love it.

Bromance (Avicii’s Arena Remix) – Tim Berg

Home (Above & Beyond Remix) – Chakra

The Kingdom – Estiva

And finally, directly from Gareth Emery’s Garuda label,  Ben Gold goes crazy with this track, definitely something to dance to.

Sun Stroke – Be:Gold

Aight and before I forget, Above & Beyond is coming out with their new compilation album Anjunabeats 8 on the 17th and its going to be insane, trust me.

Oh and sorry, once again when I try to tag they give me a stupid error message, sorry…
